When Becoming Hurts: Crying, Crashing, and Continuing Anyway

There will be seasons in life when pursuing your goals feels less like a confident stride and more like a trembling, uneven walk. You will cry. You will get discouraged. You will talk yourself out of what you once believed you were ready for. And in those moments, it may feel like you’re failing or falling behind. But this emotional and spiritual turbulence is not a sign of inadequacy; it is evidence that you are stretching beyond what is familiar. Growth requires discomfort, honesty, and sometimes the holy work of falling apart.

Becoming who you are called to be means learning to listen to your body when it whispers, “Rest,” honoring your spirit when it says, “Pause,” and trusting that clarity can emerge from the very moments where you are the most undone. Every return to your goals after fear, after exhaustion, after self-doubt is an act of courage that reshapes you from the inside out. The sacred truth is this: transformation is not proven by the absence of struggle, but by your willingness to keep coming home to yourself every time you fall.

Recall the moments when your resolve was fragile, those late nights when tears quietly fell, or mornings when you questioned if your vision was truly meant for you. What gentle, wise, or surprising force encouraged you to keep going? Maybe it was a memory of how far you’ve already come. Maybe it was a whisper of possibility you couldn’t quite let go of. Or maybe it was the simple truth that something profound inside you refuses to give up, even when your mind tries to find an escape.

Reflect on how many times you've paused, curled inward, or broken down and still managed to gather your strength and rise again. What does that reveal about who you are becoming? How does it change your understanding of perseverance? Think also about how your tears have washed away perfectionism, how rest has renewed your clarity, and how doubt has taught you to choose yourself intentionally. Your journey isn’t defined by the interruptions but by the honesty, grace, and courage you bring to each new beginning. What wisdom is your struggle offering now? What new strength is waiting for acknowledgment?

Affirmation

I honor my tears, my pauses, and my rest.

I trust that even when I stumble, I am still moving forward.

I give myself permission to falter and permission to rise again.

I am committed to my growth, my becoming, and my purpose.

I will not give up on myself.

Prayer

Beloved creator,

Meet me in the moments when I feel undone.

Meet me when my tears fall, when my energy fades, and when my confidence wavers.

Hold me with tenderness as I wrestle with the doubts that cloud my vision and the fears that challenge my courage.

Strengthen me with the reminder that rest is not failure and pause is not defeat.

Restore my hope, renew my spirit, and guide my steps back toward the goals you have placed within me.

Help me rise each time I fall and trust that Your presence sustains me on the journey. Amen.
